YEAR 1

How quickly did term 4 pass. Students enjoyed being in class after remote learning, and we spent the term focussing a lot on reading and writing skills. We also used any time available for completing the Spelling Mastery program which students missed during remote learning. I am extremely proud of the progress that students have made in their learning during these challenging times.

Mathematics: This term the children participated in a variety of ‘hands on’ and practical activities to further develop their counting and number skills. The areas that were covered throughout the term included place value, data collection, graphing, money, and revision of topics taught this year.

I strongly recommend that during the summer break, you keep borrowing books from the local library and use books from Reading Eggspress to continue reading with your child. Please make sure your child practises the 200 words from the list they have, so that they are able to read those words without having the need to sound them out and also assist them to practise spelling these words. Keep a writing journal too, for them to write about places they visited during the holidays or a simple recount of what they have been doing. This will further develop their literacy skills and help them make a great start for Year 2 next year.

It was such a pleasure teaching this wonderful class of students this year and I will continue working with them to the best of my ability in 2021. A big thank you to all the parents for supporting me in this journey and I look forward to another successful year in 2021.

Wish you all a safe and happy summer break!!
